You will know you are in a Muslim country at the first call to prayer (which is 5 times a day), especially if your hotel is close to a mosque.  While the call to prayer is usually short (a few minutes), some voices are easier to listen to than others, so before you book your accommodation, find out where the nearest mosque is located) The first call to prayer is very early in the morning.  (You have been warned!) Clothing.  If visiting the more remote areas of Lombok, wear long sleeves and trousers that cover to at least the knees. Ramadan.  During the fasting month of Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink during daylight hours, nor smoke in public.  While this is of less a concern in the more touristy areas such as Senggigi, Mataram and the Gili Islands, it may draw some displeased looks in the smaller villages. Like anywhere in the world, respect the cultures of the country you are visiting.
